Gingrey Applauds Georgia, Urges Others States to Take Action Against Government Takeover
1/29/2010
Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Phil Gingrey (R-GA) today said he supports efforts by several Georgia Legislators to refuse to accept a government takeover of our nations’ health care system. Georgia law makers (see below for a full listing), along with those in 26 other states, have pledged to support legislation that will abolish any mandate included in the Federal health care bill that requires individuals to pay a new tax if they don’t have “government approved” insurance.
Congressman Gingrey’s statement is as follows:
“It is apparent by the number of states choosing to opt out of the Democrats’ proposed government run plan that the American people do not want this health care reform to get rammed through Congress. Our nation is suffering from soaring unemployment numbers and Americans simply cannot afford the higher taxes, higher premiums, and stifling debt this bill places on our families and children.
Senator-Elect Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts should serve as a dose of reality for President Obama and the Democratic Leadership. I will fully support the efforts of my Republican colleagues here in Washington — as well as in Georgia — to defeat this bill.”
This effort is being spearheaded by a national organization comprised of state legislators called the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Participating states include: Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming. ALEC says they expect more states to join as well. Efforts in Georgia are being led by State Senators Judson Hill, Chip Rogers, Ralph Hudgens, Lee Hawkins, Jim Butterworth, and John Douglas; and State Representatives Calvin Hill, Jeff May, Sharon Cooper, Charlice Byrd, Donna Sheldon, and Joe Wilkinson.

Physicians rally against ObamaCare on September 10
Last Thursday thousands of physicians from across the country descended upon the Capitol to declare to the American people that the AMA does not speak for the majority of physicians in America in their efforts to support ObamaCare.
This was truly a grassroots effort among doctors and I was proud to join them to declare that we do have the right prescription for America’s healthcare system. HR 3400, the Empowering Patients...
